When you think of Leonard and Sons, you probably associate us with being Chicagoland’s number one chimney maintenance provider. However, as a building service, we are proud that we can provide the city we love with more than just top-notch chimney and fireplace services. Our home service experts also provide Chicagoland’s best dryer ventilation inspection, maintenance and cleaning services as well.

Why do we offer dryer vent services?

The answer to this is pretty simple. We offer these services because we care about the keeping our city beautiful, while keeping it’s residents safe. Just like your chimney, having a dirty dryer vent is also a potential fire hazard. In fact, the United States Fire Administration estimates that approximately 2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported annually causing 100 injuries, 5 deaths, and nearly 35 million dollars in property loss. About one out of three of clothes dryer fires are caused by improper dryer vent cleaning. Dirty dryer vents also can lead to other issues such as allowing toxic carbon monoxide gas from getting into your home. We here at Leonard and Sons want to help keep your family safe from the dangers of a dirty dryer vent.

How do my dryer vents get dirty?

Your clothes dryer needs to produce a lot of hot air to dry your clothes. This hot air needs to be vented to prevent your dryer from overheating. Hot air is expelled through a ventilation duct that runs out of the back of the dryer and into an exterior vent. As your clothes dry, they produce lint. Your lint trap does a great job at catching most of this lint, however, some of the lint is able to sneak by your lint trap and is blown into the ventilation duct. If lint gets caught in the ventilation duct, it can start to build up and restricting hot air from ventilating. This excess heat can lead to lint and clothes catching fire or causing a potentially fatal carbon monoxide leak in your home.

We offer vent cleaning!

To prevent potential fire and carbon monoxide hazards, it is important to have your dryer vents inspected at least once a year by a Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) certified chimney technician. Only a CSIA certified chimney and ventilation expert has had the training and experience to properly inspect and clean your dryer vents. That’s why at Leonard and Sons, we have all of our ventilation experts CSIA certified.
